  Bedeilhac cave
Ariège

Setting aside its vast porch, the Bedeilhac cave is huge: it would take six hours to visit it all! Its size and ease of access have made it a natural refuge since the 14th millennium. Its easy access has unfortunately led to the gradual disappearance of its prehistoric tools, weapons and potteries.
Fortunately, the bisons, reindeer, horses and ibex painted and engraved in the end chamber have been saved...
They can be seen after making your way through a one-kilometre-long gallery in a succession of huge chambers with imposing pillars made of stalagmites.

What is unique about Bedeilhac is the diversity of cave painting styles. All the painting and engraving techniques used in the Palaeolithic age are represented: layer painting, line drawings, engraving in clay and on rock faces, bichrome paintings, sexual representations, painted hands and unique prehistoric clay bas-reliefs.
